Chordofonia

Chordofonia offers, among other things, the following concert formats:

Sinfonia mediterranea:

Chordofonia presents a sonic odyssey through the Mediterranean musical landscapes of the turn of the century, lending familiar works a fascinating new dimension through its unique instrumentation.

We encounter three outstanding composers from France, Spain, and Italy—Ravel, Turina, and Mascagni—whose works reflect the cultural diversity and musical richness of the great Mediterranean nations. The late Romantic blossoms of Italy, as found in the wonderful music of Ugo Bottacchiari or Raffaele Calace with its emotional depth, left their mark not only on the great (film) composer Ennio Morricone, but even as far away as Japan…

Experience how Chordofonia, alongside colorful original works, illuminates familiar sounds with innovative instrumentation—a concert full of passion, elegance, and Mediterranean joie de vivre!

Imperial Contrasts: Sound Bridges Between Europe and Asia

The sonic diversity of the music of the Austro-Hungarian Empire and the fascinating musical language of the former Japanese Empire tell a story of encounter and fusion. The music of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, shaped by composers like Gustav Mahler, also reveals its intimate chamber music facets.

Japanese compositions, on the other hand, impress with modern playing techniques and richly colored soundscapes. They capture the energy of traditional festivals or the tranquility of nature scenes and open up mysterious, futuristic sound worlds.

This musical journey connects East and West in a vibrant dialogue that blends traditional elements with modern techniques and creates new forms of expression—an experience that allows familiar sounds to be rediscovered and celebrates the diversity of contemporary music.

Dialogues – Soundscapes Between Minimal Music and World Sounds

“Dialogues” is a program that brings contemporary music into a fascinating dialogue between cultures, styles, and sounds. Inspired by the hypnotic precision of Minimal Music and the rich traditions of non-European musical cultures, a concert unfolds full of meditative intensity, pulsating rhythms, and richly colored soundscapes.

Chordofonia lends these works a fresh perspective through its unique instrumentation. The music moves between repetitive structures that create an almost trance-like effect and emotional timbres that deeply resonate. At the same time, Western and global influences converge and merge into a musical journey that transports the audience to new sonic realms.

“Dialogues” is an experience that celebrates the diversity of contemporary music – intense, innovative, and full of emotional depth. A program that speaks not only to the ears but also to the soul.
